Obligatory Monday Afternoon Post-Concert Post - 140809 @ Club FF

Forever fighting with my two "cameras". I think my Samsung Galaxy 5 has given up on audio, and my iphone... the video is so clear, but a very small view. Audio seems ok but... not great. Bear with me please.
푸르내 / Blue Stream
I arrived late, missing the first band. However, Blue Stream was a great way to start the evening. Chill music, with that 60s innocence, flirting with some 70s experimentation. I really feel like the biggest strength Blue Stream has is in their two vocalists... separately they are both good -- but when they combine their voices, it is very beautiful and I am really sad that my video doesn't seem to show off that strength, but give it a shot. I enjoyed the tone of the guitars, and Blue Stream's set fed quite well into the next band.

So... I really had no idea what to expect when Bye Bye Badman came on stage and kicked the night into high gear. I'm sure I've talked about it before, but when a band is really feeling it, YOU KNOW. And I LOVE IT. I love watching a band that is really enjoying what they are doing. It makes the music just that much better. AND.... I have a weakness for keyboard/fx players that are killing it [because let's face it, that doesn't happen often].

This band has so many positives I am not even sure I can list them all... I'll start with the keyboard player who is KILLING it. I could watch that guy all day. And if I wasn't watching him, I'd be staring at the drummer, who is just, really, really good. I'm terrible at stating why a drummer is good, but I know when I hear or see one... this guy is really good. Surf guitar. Tambourine. Two male vocalists [three if you count keyboard/fx as additional support]... one sweet/high... the other support. Impossibly beautiful and perfect female bass player [I hate to put it that way, but there it is]. Fun, innocent sounding songs with occasional dirty lyrics, churchy-sounding keyboard and all the ridiculous energy to back it up. [Brad Weber, I'd be interested in your thoughts on these guys. Not sure why... but you're the most qualified musician I know... and I think I just want some confirmation on how cool these guys are]...

Having a hard time picking one video, so I'll choose two... come on in, the water's great...

Ssighborggg
Ssighborgg is a bit out in left-field here in this show... as they are a two-man electronic/guitar/drums set. Instrumental only, with occasional... chip tunes? [I certainly detected some Nintendo/8-bit in there]. I like the sounds from using a drumstick as a "bow" on the guitar. I did really like the drummer, who as far as Angie D'Errico could tell, dedicated a song to his mother.

Light and Noise
I'm sure it's become obvious through just these few reviews that I am a sucker for any sort of... atypical instrumentation. [Hanumpa, anyone???]. So on the second song when a violin bow came out for use on a guitar, yeah... I was sold then. The instrumentation here is quite beautiful overall and feels very rich and full. Lead guitarist is SO good, and I am also a fan of the drummer - his sound is atypical to the harsh attacks of what I see/hear a lot of here. I would like to see these guys play a show with NoReByu or Horizon, as they have styles that I think would blend really well.

Life and Time
Oh Life and Time. I am so sorry for "the foreigner contingent"... I shall say, the three non-asian girls standing right up front. I know I am not an easy fan... I stand right up front and take video... and because I am trying to take good video, I am not moving... and you probably think this means I am not feeling/don't understand/don't like your music. This really couldn't be further from the truth.

I just reviewed L&T last week. I will fall into redundancy if I am not careful, so I will keep this as short and sweet as I can. Eh.... just keep doing what you're doing. I'll be seeing you again in two weeks at the Julia Dream CD release show...

I always post Tiger... so this time I will give you something more laid back... L&T, like Telefly... I am cursed to not take video that really shows how great they are... but give this a whirl:
